Mathilde Gremaud and Dylan Deschamps victorious after poor weather scuppers big ski finals in Switzerland
The Big Air Chur freeski finals were cancelled due to weather complications on Friday, leaving the qualification winners to claim a surprise tournament victory.
Heavy winds and rain made it nearly impossible to prepare the venue in Switzerland, forcing the cancellation of the finals at the Freeski World Cup.
As a result, Thursday’s qualification standings were left to determine the stage winners, with the host country’s Mathilde Gremaud taking top spot in the women’s competition.
Gremaud was joined on the podium by two-time Chur winner Tess Ledeux of France in second, and fellow Swiss star Sarah Hoefflin in third.
In the men’s side, Canada’s Dylan Deschamps scored his first World Cup victory on just his third start with a winning score of 93.66.
Austria’s Daniel Bacher took second with his first World Cup podium, while last year’s Chur winner, Birk Ruud of Norway, secured his ninth-straight World Cup medal with a third-place finish.
Despite the cancellation of the competition, the concert portion of the Big Air Chur Festival continued on schedule, with easing rains allowing for acts from across the globe to take to the stage.
