Max Langenhan doubles up to win Sprint at FIL Luge World Cup as Egle family shines at Lake Placid
Max Langenhan added sprint success to his FIL Luge World Cup men’s singles victory on a dream weekend in Lake Placid.
The German was the class of the field in the men’s singles, producing the fastest times on both the first and second runs to take victory by 0.446 seconds from Austria’s Jonas Mueller, with another Austrian, Nico Gleirscher, finishing third.
And when it came to Saturday’s sprint World Cup, Langenhan was just as dominant, taking the win by 0.303 seconds from compatriot Felix Loch, with Gleirscher again taking bronze.
In the women’s single, Madeleine Egle of Austria produced the fastest times on both the first and second runs, edging out Germany’s Julia Taubitz by 0.188 seconds for the win. Home favourite Summer Britcher came home in third.
Taubitz exacted her revenge in the sprint however, beating a pair of Americans, Ashley Farquharson and Emily Sweeney, to gold, with a winning margin of just 0.099 over the former.
Egle’s younger sister, Selina, made it a family affair on the podium, taking gold in the sprint women’s doubles alongside Lara Michaela Kipp, while Latvian duo Martins Bots and Roberts Plume took the sprint men’s doubles.
