Hamilton: Whatever upgrade we bring the gap stays the same

The pack was squeezed together again as a second safety car came out on lap 22 after a huge crash between Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso.

That tempted Hamilton to attempt an undercut on lap 36, which put both him and Leclerc ahead of Verstappen when the world champion suffered a dreadfully slow pitstop.

Hamilton took the lead from Sebastian Vettel on lap 41, before Verstappen’s medium tyres allowed him to sweep past Hamilton on hards nine laps later.
