Media mogul maxes donations to Chris Christie — and Biden

Billionaire media mogul Barry Diller has donated tens of thousands of dollars to former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s GOP presidential campaign and super PAC — while simultaneously funneling six-figure contributions to President Biden’s 2024 re-election efforts, according to recent federal filings.

The 81-year-old chairman of IAC, whose portfolio includes The Daily Beast, gave the maximum donation of $3,300 to Chris Christie for President, Inc., and another $46,700 to the Tell It Like It Is PAC at the end of June, second quarter federal election filings show.

At the same time, Diller maxed out with a $6,600 contribution to the Biden campaign and gave $100,000 to the president and Democratic Party’s joint super PAC for the general election.

“I think nominating Donald Trump has such destructive consequences that supporting Chris Christie’s campaign to stop that from happening is something I very much support,” Diller told The Post in an email early Thursday. “I also like and respect Christie.”

The Diller donations raise new questions about Democratic influence in the Republican primary. Diller did not donate to Biden’s 2020 campaign but was a megadonor and fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Since 2016, the Expedia Group executive has given more than $2 million to Democratic candidates and committees, according to the money-in-politics tracking website OpenSecrets.org.

Diller has also let former first daughter Chelsea Clinton serve on IAC’s board since 2011, where she has raked in more than $9 million in company shares, Barron’s reported.

Diller isn’t the only Democrat with warm feelings toward Christie. A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday showed 32% of registered Dems had a favorable view of the former Garden State governor, compared to 24% of independents — and just 17% of actual registered Republicans.

The Fox Broadcasting Company founder and Hollywood icon got in hot water last year when the federal government began probing whether he, his stepson and music and film industry titan David Geffen engaged in lucrative insider trading before Activision Blizzard’s merger with Microsoft.

The Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating whether the three men raked in roughly $60 million from trades made days before the merger was announced.

Diller confirmed the investigation to The Wall Street Journal but said the trio “acted on no information of any kind from anyone.”

“It was simply a lucky bet,” he told the newspaper.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough on Wednesday teased that Trump was “scared to death” of facing the former New Jersey governor and may skip the first Republican primary debate in Milwaukee next week.

New York Times podcaster Kara Swisher also contributed $5 to Christie’s campaign, in a gesture to help the candidate reach the Republican National Committee’s unique donor threshold requirement to debate Trump.

“I gave him money cause I want him to be on the stage. I want him to reach that number. And I really like debates,” she said on an episode of “On with Kara Swisher” this month. “I watch them and I think it’s important that Trump has someone who actually can take him on a little better.”

“If Trump drops out, there’s a lane for him,” Swisher added, saying even if his campaign flops, “He will get a book deal. He’ll be on TV.”

Christie, a onetime Trump ally, is polling 52 points behind the frontrunner at 2.3% support, according to the RealClearPolitics polling average.

A New Hampshire poll released Tuesday showed Christie surging ahead of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis into second place, but with just 9% support among voters.

Reps for the Tell It Like It Is PAC and the Christie campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
