Meghan, Harry share ‘warm’ phone call with King Charles — ending 6-month ‘no talking’ streak
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have put a dramatic end to months of silence as they picked up the phone and called King Charles on his 75th birthday.
While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were reportedly not invited to the monarch’s birthday bash at Clarence House Tuesday night, the pair did extend an olive branch by reaching out to Harry’s estranged father.
The phone call marked the first time the two camps have spoken in over six months.
It’s understood that Charles also took the time to speak to Markle, with whom he hasn’t spoken for months on end.
What’s more, the King reportedly received a pre-recorded video of his grandchildren, Prince Archie, four, and Princess Lilibet, two, in which they sing happy birthday to the monarch, according to The Telegraph.
It seems as though the phone call went so well that Charles and Harry have penciled in yet another over-the-phone catch-up for next week in what could be a “turning point” in their relationship.
It’s said that the King’s conversation with the Sussexes, who quit the royal family in 2020 and moved across the pond, were friendly and cordial.
It was the first time Harry had spoken to his father since April.
“The King was extremely busy but is polite and loves his son and his grandchildren, and not so mean that he would not take a call on his birthday,” a source told the Sun of the phone call.
Despite returning to his home soil a handful of times since his father’s May 6 coronation, Harry has not seen Charles since that day.
What’s more, the pair have not spoken face-to-face since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022.
Following the King’s call with his son and daughter-in-law on Tuesday, the monarch hosted a birthday celebration at Clarence House — his former official residence.
The Sussexes reportedly didn’t make it onto the guest list for the birthday gathering, and have said there’s been “no contact” “no contact” from the royals about the fête.
Charles’ bash, which went on for hours, was attended by Prince William, 41, Kate Middleton, 41, and Queen Camilla, 76, as well as other members of the royal family.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were seen leaving the party late Tuesday night, proving that a good time was had by all.
