Meghan Markle rumored to be signing deal with Dior: report
It’s a brand deal that could earn her a lot of royalties.
Meghan Markle, 41, could soon be making a splash in the high-fashion world, as a new report claimed she might be in the process of penning a deal with Dior in a bid from her talent agency, William Morris Endeavor, to “re-invent” the Duchess.
In a new column in The Mail on Sunday written by author Caroline Graham, an unnamed Beverly Hills socialite alleged that Markle is “all anyone is talking about.”
“There have been rumors for weeks that she’s about to sign a deal with Dior which has put the gossip mill into overdrive,” the source claimed. “If she pulls that off, then no one will remember that her silly little podcast got cancelled after one season.”
The Post reached out to Markle’s reps for further comment.
This news comes just a few days after it was announced that the couple would be splitting from Spotify after Markle’s podcast, “Archetypes,” was not renewed for a second season.
On Thursday, a source close to the situation told The Post that the pair’s Archewell media company didn’t produce enough content to receive the full payout of the roughly $20 million deal that Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, 38, signed in 2020.
A joint statement to the Post from Spotify and Archewell Audio said that they have “mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together.”
The 12-episode podcast series, in which Markle explored the “labels that try to hold women back,” was the only project that the couple produced during their two-and-a-half year partnership with Spotify, along with a one-off holiday special.
However, a source at WME alleged to the outlet that they knew that the podcast announcement was coming.
The insider claimed that this rumored move to Dior may come as a “shock” to other members of the public, but that the agency has reportedly been “working on the rebranding of Meghan for weeks.”
Markle has been in “immersed” in meetings since she signed, with WME CEO Ari Emanuel and his team in April, according to Variety.
“Ari is the best in the business when it comes to corporate deals and making money,” the WME insider claimed. “He’s excited to be representing Meghan and has thrown all his energy into it. The offers have been pouring in, including from other podcast platforms.”
But if Markle does end up becoming the next Dior cover girl, it would make some sense, as she has worn the brand many times before.
In 2019, she wore a cream dress with bracelet sleeves designed by the brand to her now-four-year-old son Archie’s christening, per Newsweek, and a neutral-colored, haute couture coat dress to the Platinum Jubilee National Service of Thanksgiving last June.
It could also mark a new chapter for the Duchess, after she and her husband decided to officially step away from their roles as senior royals in 2020.
Eric Schiffer, who is the chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, told The Mail on Sunday that Markle’s team will “use the drama to her advantage,” and is seemingly seeking to “distance herself from the toxic emotional drama that Harry seems unable to put in the past.”
Currently, Markle’s husband, Prince Harry, is embattled in an ongoing legal action against Mirror Group Newspapers.
But Schiffer claimed that Markle will look ahead and “focus on the positive.”
“She will go back to an image of a strong, successful woman who built her own career and will focus on serious women’s issues, but also things that are fun and aspirational, like couture fashion,” he told the outlet.
In 2020, the couple reportedly signed an $100 million deal with Netflix for their documentary series, “Harry and Meghan” which premiered last December.
In January, Prince Harry released his bombshell memoir, “Spare,” in which he branded his brother, Prince William, as his “arch-nemesis.”
The couple was not present for this weekends’ festivities honoring King Charles’ birthday on June 17.
