Meghan Markle steals the spotlight from Prince Harry at the Invictus Games
Meghan Markle was Team USA all the way Wednesday at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games.
The Duke, 38, and Duchess, 42, of Sussex attended the Wheelchair Basketball Final in Dusseldorf, Germany, on Wednesday and watched as the US beat France.
Markle added a pop of red, white, and blue to her all black outfit after a Team USA supporter seated behind her gave her an American flag badge, the Daily Mail reported.
It was no surprise that Markle, who was born in Los Angeles, California would cheer on the USA team while Harry has been a huge supporter of the UK team since arriving in Dusseldorf.
The former “Suits” actress also sang along to “Sweet Caroline” as it boomed throughout the Merkur Spiel Arena, according to the outlet.
Harry and Meghan also shared a laugh when they were confronted by France’s mascot — a person in giant inflatable rooster costume.
The couple also attended the swimming finals on Wednesday where Markle held a white dog for a photo alongside Harry and seemingly a few members of the event staff.
The red-headed royal created the Invictus Games, a multi-sport event similar to the Paralympics, in 2014 for wounded veterans.
Harry served in the British Army for 10 years, undertaking two tours of Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, Harry and Meghan made a rare joint speech upon her arrival in Germany where she told guests at the “Friends @ Home Event” that it was “special” to be at the games.
“I’m really, really proud to be part of this Invictus family with all of you. I’m grateful for all of you that are here,” she reportedly said.
“I just landed a couple hours ago and I am thrilled that the first event that I can do for Invictus is here with all of you. It is amazing and I hear the week so far has gotten off to a good start, is that right?”
The games started on Sept.9 and will end with the Closing Ceremony on Saturday.
Markle arrived in Düsseldorf few days after Harry, apologizing in her speech, “I’m sorry that I was a little late to the party. “I just had to spend a little more time getting our little ones settled at home, putting milkshakes for their school drop-off,” referencing the couple’s two kids Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2.
The couple are reportedly staying in a luxurious $2,500-a-night suite at one of the fanciest hotels in Düsseldorf for the event.
