Meghan Markle teases ‘exciting’ future, reacts to ‘Suits’ Netflix success at Variety’s Power of Women event
Meghan Markle teased an “exciting” future of new projects after being left astounded at the major success the resurgence of “Suits” has had on Netflix.
While walking the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women event in Los Angeles Thursday, the Duchess of Sussex raved over the legal drama’s resurrection on the streaming platform.
“Isn’t that wild?” Markle, 42, told Variety.
The actress’ most notable — and final — role of her career was paralegal Rachel Zane on the hit USA Network series, which ended in 2019.
After being told that the show has amassed over 45 billion minutes streamed on Netflix and Peacock combined, Markle admitted that she had “no idea” was caused the resurgence.
“It was great to work on, such a great cast and crew,” she shared. “We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit.”
“But it’s hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it. But good shows are everlasting,” she added.
The duchess quit the show, which also starred Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Torres, in 2017 when she got engaged to Prince Harry.
On Thursday, she teased her Hollywood comeback, though this time as a producer.
Markle subtly hinted at the content fans can expect from her and Harry’s production company, Archewell Productions, in the future.
“[I want to make] things that make people feel — I was going say ‘good,’ but it’s more than that, things that make people feel something, right? And feel a sense of community,” she explained.
“But we have so many exciting things on the slate. I can’t wait until we can announce them, but I’m just really proud of what we’re creating.”
“My husband is loving it, too. It’s really fun,” she added.
The Sussexes have so far debuted three projects under their lucrative Netflix deal so far.
The pair first released their bombshell six-part documentary “Harry & Meghan” in 2022, followed by “Live to Lead,” and most recently, “Heart of Invictus.”
Harry, 39, did not walk the red carpet alongside his wife at the event focused on celebrating women.
Markle in April signed with WME CEO Ari Emanuel and his team.
Her team on a day-to-day basis will be Serena Williams’ agent Jill Smoller and Brad Slater, a behemoth in the movie business, who reps Dwayne Johnson.
WME represents the top talent across the industry including writers, filmmakers, actors, producers, stylists, fashion designers and their agents.
The company also handles brand licensing, speaking engagements, media production and events, including New York Fashion Week.
