Meghan Markle wants to inflict ‘maximum damage’ before coronation
Meghan Markle might be skipping the coronation, but she has no intention of avoiding drama, according to a source.
“Even though Meghan doesn’t plan to attend, she wants to cause maximum damage to the royal family,” GB News host and Daily Mail columnist Dan Wootton told Sky News.
Wootton noted that the recent news of Markle, 41, penning letters to King Charles III, 74, about her concerns over racism in the royal family seems conveniently timed as the coronation draws closer.
While Prince Harry, 38, attends his father’s big day solo, Markle will stay behind in California with their kids, Prince Archie, 3, and Princess Lilibet, 1.
“What they wanted wasn’t achieved,” a source told People, referring to a family reconciliation. “But at the end of the day, he’s going there to support his dad … it’s become so personal.”
Relations have been tense between the couple and the rest of the royal family for a long time — but they reached a boiling point after the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan” and Harry’s best-selling memoir, “Spare,” which contained numerous bombshells.
Complicating matters, the coronation happens to overlap with Prince Archie’s fourth birthday. So Harry will be missing his son’s party in order to celebrate his father.
Markle reportedly is throwing a birthday party for the tot on the same day as the coronation, and some royal commentators said she’s doing it to “upstage” the ceremony.
“It’s terribly petty, but the Sussexes, who no longer have their royal platform, seem to relish any opportunity to attempt to upstage a royal occasion,” royal columnist Lee Cohen told the Express.
According to the Mirror, Archie’s birthday bash could be a celeb-filled event, with the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi rumored to be attending.
Meanwhile, the royal family has had trouble locking in celebs to perform at the coronation. Artists such as Adele, Harry Styles and Princess Diana’s friend Elton John all allegedly turned the palace down.
“She still wants to bring down the royal family,” Wootton told Sky News.
“She will be unsuccessful, though.”
