Meryl Streep spearheaded ‘Devil Wears Prada’ reunion at SAG Awards 2024

Meryl was the one who wanted it!

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt had a “The Devil Wears Prada” reunion at the 2024 SAG Awards.

During her time on the red carpet on Saturday night, Hathaway, 41, who wore a cerulean dress, spilled the beans that Prada-clad Streep was the one who reached out about it.

“Well, I’m thrilled,” Hathaway said about the reunion.

“I don’t think any of us can believe — as much as we love the film, as much as we believed in what we were making — it’s just been incredible to watch the way it’s grown over the decades. Meryl was the one who said, ‘You think you can make it to the SAG Awards?’ and I was like, ‘I’ll do anything to be there.’”

17 years after the release of the iconic 2006 comedy/drama, the trio reunited onstage to present Jeremy Allen White with the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series for his role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in Hulu’s “The Bear.”

While the SAG Awards have been a host-less show since 2021, “Ted Lasso” star Phil Dunster and “Red, White & Royal Blue” actor Taylor Zakhar Perez were this year’s ambassadors for the ceremony.

“The Devil Wears Prada” was loosely based on Lauren Weisberger’s book of the same name.

Streep played the Anna Wintour-esque editor of Runway magazine, Miranda Priestly, while Hathaway and Blunt’s characters, Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton, respectively, played her overworked assistants.

Hathaway wore a cerulean dress with a belt to the ceremony, which was a nod to the film.

“This is our archival Versace (2018). And what color would you say this is?” Hathaway asked Laverne Cox, who was interviewing her on the red carpet.

“Cerulean!” Cox said, while Hathaway agreed.

In the movie, Miranda gives Andy an iconic dressing down, in a scene when Andy is holding belts and says, “It’s just that… both those belts look exactly the same to me. Y’know, I’m still learning about this stuff.”

Miranda replies with a memorable monologue.

“This… ‘stuff’? Oh, okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You… go to your closet, and you select… I don’t know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back, but what you don’t know is that that sweater is not just blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis, it’s actually cerulean,” Miranda says.

“You’re also blithely unaware of the fact that, in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns, and then I think it was Yves Saint Laurent, wasn’t it?… who showed cerulean military jackets…And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic casual corner where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin.

“However, that blue represents millions of dollars of countless jobs, and it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, you’re wearing a sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room… from a pile of ‘stuff.’”

Blunt is up for a SAG Award this year for her supporting role in “Oppenheimer,” and she’s also gotten an Oscar nomination.

This is a rare year that Streep is not up for an Academy Award, but she’s been more active on the small screen as of late, with her role on the hit Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building.” She’s been nominated for the SAG Award for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.”

Hathaway is not up for an Oscar or a SAG award this year, but she’s got the steamy rom-com “The Idea of You” coming up, in which she plays a divorced mom who gets entangled with a younger man in a boy band.

Idris Elba opened the ceremony, and Jennifer Aniston will present the 59th SAG Lifetime Achievement Award to Barbra Streisand.

The SAG Awards stream live on Netflix on Feb. 24, 2024, at 8 p.m. EST from the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
