Michelle Obama earns nearly $750K for one-hour speech

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has reportedly walked away with nearly $750,000 after giving a one-hour speech on diversity and inclusion in Germany on Monday.

The 59-year-old former lawyer spoke to an estimated 5,000 attendees on how to “push past self-doubt while discussing the importance of inclusivity and diversity” at the annual Bits and Pretzels forum in Munich — a start-up event held on the sidelines of the annual Oktoberfest beer festival, according to the event website.

For her speech, Michelle was paid 700,000 Euros, which is roughly equivalent to $741,000, two unidentified sources close to the conference organizers told the Daily Mail.

Organizers told the outlet that the former first lady “topped the list” of people that participants wanted to hear from  “year after year.”

“They really pulled out all the stops to get her,” one person close to the team told the Daily Mail, adding: “It’s one of the highest fees that they have ever paid.”

In fact, the $741,000 figure is nearly double what her former colleague, Joe Biden, makes in one year as president – at $400,000.

Michelle Obama could usually be booked for speaking arrangements for $200,000, while her husband would cost $400,000, Axios reported in 2017.

But the former first lady seems to be earning more money amid speculation that she could be named the Democratic nominee for president.

Barack Obama spoke at the same forum three years ago in a keynote address that focused on “entrepreneurial spirit and leadership skills,” according to the Daily Mail.

His fee for that appearance has not been disclosed, but he picked up only about  $7,000 for two speeches in Australia earlier this year.

Since leaving office, Barack and Michelle Obama have seen their wealth explode thanks to media ventures including books and podcasts.

The former first lady netted a $65 million book advance for her bestselling memoir.

The couple also signed a $50 million deal with Netflix.

And the former president stands to pay less in taxes as a result of a special loophole as a “strategic partner” with NBA Africa, a venture which oversees the continent’s Basketball Africa League.

In total, the couple’s net worth has been estimated at between $70 million and $135 million.
