Mikael Kingsbury claims World Cup dual moguls victory on home snow in Val Saint-Come
Mikael Kingsbury clinched his third dual moguls victory of the Freestyle Ski World Cup season to delight the home crowd in Val Saint-Come.
Kingsbury edged out Sweden’s Filip Gravenfors in the big final to seal and 85th career World Cup victory, one behind Ingemar Stenmark’s men’s record.
The Canadian beat compatriot Louis-David Chalifoux in the last 16 and Japan’s Takuya Shimakawa in the quarter-final before narrowly beating out Matt Graham by three points in the semi-final.
Graham bounced back to take victory in the small final over France’s Benjamin Cavet.
Kingsbury’s lead in the dual moguls standings now sits at 140 points, with Rasmus Stegfeldt the closet challenger, narrowly ahead of Gravenfors.
Jakara Anthony took victory in the women’s competition to extend her winning dual moguls run to three.
After finishing top of the podium in Alps d’Huez and Bakuriani at the end of 2023, Anthony started the new year as she left off with a dominant showing in Canada.
The Australian beat Jaelin Kauf in the big final after the American did not finish.
Kauf beat compatriot Olivia Giaccio in the semi-final, but Giaccio responded with small final victory over Rino Yanagimoto.
Giaccio sits third in the dual mogul standings with 225 points, 19 points behind Kauf while Anthony has a healthy lead of 114 points at the summit.
