Mikaela Shiffrin leads way after first slalom run in Zagreb with Lindsey Vonn record in sight
Mikaela Shiffrin leads the way after the first run of the women’s slalom in Zagreb on Wednesday as she continues to chase Lindsey Vonn’s record.
Shiffrin, 27, came into the slalom double-header in Zagreb on 80 World Cup wins after a stunning run of form in the past couple of weeks.

If she were to triumph in the two Zagreb events on Wednesday and Thursday she would move to 82 wins, level with compatriot Vonn for the most wins ever by a woman in the World Cup.

She started well, getting to grips with the tricky conditions that tripped up some of her rivals. She ended up with a time of 48.93s, the only skier to go under 49s.
Sweden Anna Swenn Larsson and Shiffrin’s great rival, Petra Vlhova of Slovakia, round up the top three.
With so much warm weather across Europe, the snow was not in its top condition and as a result a number of skiers who started with bib number 20 or later were able to sneak into the top 15 with Camile Rast of Switzerland cracking the top 10.
