Millie Bobby Brown appears to lose accent in TV interview
British native Millie Bobby Brown has seemingly been in ‘Merica a little too long.
The “Damsel” star’s accent — or lack thereof — was called into question during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Thursday.
During the segment, the 20-year-old’s tone of voice appeared to slip from her English tongue into the American accent she uses for most of her acting roles.
While the young Emmy Award-nominated actress was raised in Bournemouth, England, and also in Orlando, Florida, she has spent much of her career in the US working on the Netflix series “Stranger Things.”
Naturally, viewers were very confused over her voice during the NBC talk show.
“Her british accent is barely there anymore. I know shes been in america for a long time now but omg it used to be SO strong,” one person commented on the YouTube video of the sit-down.
Another person chimed in: “It almost sounds like she’s doing an impersonation of an American accent throughout this interview.”
“Millie speaks like a rich valley girl now. Like damn its like the accent is there but barely [with] a pinch of sass,” one stated.
“She can turn her accents on and off, I love it!!” a fan gushed, while another added: “It’s like watching Ross on ‘Friends’ when he was trying to phase out his british accent.”
In a Season 6 episode of the hit NBC sitcom, Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer) tries to combat his anxiety about teaching a college class by using a fake English voice.
Ross then realizes how silly he sounds and attempts to gradually eliminate his faux talk.
Brown has starred on “Stranger Things” since 2016 and the sci-fi horror series is set to come to an end in 2025.
In her chat with the “Saturday Night Live” alum, 49, on Thursday, she dished all about how her fiancé, Jake Bongiovi, proposed to her.
The 21-year-old son of singer Jon Bon Jovi and the “Godzilla vs. Kong” star got engaged in April 2023.
She divulged that Bongiovi asked for her hand in marriage while underwater.
“Well, I haven’t told anyone this because there are moments, key moments, but I’m like, ‘Fallon is the best’ and also I think this is too good of a story to not tell,” Brown said. “Basically, Jake and I bonded over diving. We love diving.”
While the two were on vacation, Bongiovi told her to get up bright and early at 8 a.m. for a dive. Brown was confused over the untimely hour, but she went with him to their favorite diving spot regardless.
“He gives me, like, a shell and I, like, turn it over and it’s a ring,” she continued.
“So I was like okay,’” Brown said as she demonstrated an “okay” movement with her hand. “And I think it was underwhelming, but we freaked out.”
“Anyways he puts the ring on my hand and as I go to show him the ring falls off my finger, plummets so fast, it was like a cinematic movie,” she explained. “Jake threw himself, like so deep, like the diver was like, ‘You can’t do that, your ears … literally your brain will explode.’ ”
But all was well and Bongiovi went into the water and did a “cinematic grab” to ultimately save the ring.
