Missing 4-year-old found dead in pond after dog spotted swimming alone

A missing 4-year-old girl visiting family in Florida was found dead in a nearby retention pond after the family dog was seen swimming alone.

The unnamed girl was reported missing from a residence on Derby Drive in Kissimmee around 7 p.m. Monday, the Osceola News-Gazette reported.

She was last seen in the backyard with the family dog, the Miami Herald said.

Her remains were subsequently found when the dog was spotted swimming in the nearby pond alone.

The brief search involved bloodhound units, aviation units, and dive teams, the outlet added.

The sheriff’s office characterized the girl’s death as a “tragic accident.”
