Mom gave me ‘gross’ sex talk before my wedding night
Jenna Bush Hager got a talk about sex on the evening before her wedding from her mom, Laura Bush.
Hager, 41, revealed a mortifying moment she had with Bush, 76, as well as her twin sister, Barbara Bush, before her nuptials to now-husband, Henry Hager.
On Thursday’s episode of her talk show, “Today With Hoda & Jenna,” the news personality and her co-host, Hoda Kotb, began talking about Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, during which she spoke about her love life.
“Do you kiss and tell?” Kotb, 58, asked Hager during the broadcast.
“I try not to. But I’ve been married to one person for a long time, so I don’t kiss and tell about that relationship,” the Texas native responded.
Hager and her husband married in 2008 and share three children together. They first met in 2004 when her father, George W. Bush, was president.
A photo of Hager and her spouse then popped up on the screen and led her to quip: “Oh, thank you for putting up my wedding photo. That was the night it all happened, y’all! Just kidding.”
She then explained that on the evening before she tied the knot at her family’s ranch, her mom advised her to change the sheets on the bed before she does the deed.
“My sister and I spent the night [on] the night before [my husband and I] got married, and my mom came in [singing] ‘You’re getting married! Let’s go change the sheets!’” Hager recalled.
She went on: “And Barbara goes, ‘Eww gross, mom! This isn’t ‘The Other Boleyn Girl!’”
“I won’t even say what she said after that,” the “Read All About It!” author chuckled.
She discussed Henry once again in a 2022 episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” divulging that he was captured secretly leaving the White House late one day.
“Well, he was caught, that was the problem,” Hager said at the time, noting that her Secret Service’s main concern wasn’t that the president’s daughter was “hooking up,” but to make sure unwanted people weren’t sneaking in.
Hager also previously opened up about her sex life on the NBC morning show last month alongside Kotb and guest Amy Poehler, where she dished that she was “worried” about not being able to “save” her virginity when she hit the ninth grade.
She was speaking about an old online diary entry of hers from high school where she had told herself to “hold” onto her V-card.
“I also had a ‘looking at myself in the mirror and hoping I’d be able to save my virginity’ post,” Hager reflected.
“I was just worried in ninth grade that I wouldn’t have the wherewithal to hold it, you know?” Hager joked.
“What if you’re not able to do it Jenna?!” she joked about her teenage self.
While Hager didn’t dive deep into the “truth” of losing her virginity, she confessed that it was an “embarrassing post to look back at.”
