Mom of 11 boys is ‘immune’ to birth control, pregnant with only 2nd girl
The 13th time’s a charm — let’s hope.
A Scottish couple are the parents of 11 boys and one girl, and now Alexis Brett, 42, is pregnant with their second daughter — who the couple swears is their last baby, according to Caters.
Alexis and her husband, David, 47, welcomed 10 boys in a row before their daughter, Cameron, broke that streak in 2019. Since then, Alexis also gave birth to another boy, Orran, and is now expecting another girl at the end of August.
However, she insists that the couple was never holding out for a baby girl.
“I’d been expecting to hear we were having another boy. But when I found out it was a girl, my face was a picture,” she said.
“I was shocked, but delighted. Now she’s here with us, it’s a fantastic feeling,” she said of Cameron.
“We’re asked a lot if we had so many children because we were hoping for that elusive girl. I can honestly answer ‘no,’ ” the mom continued.
“Cameron wasn’t planned, but I was happy all the same. Luckily, all my pregnancies have had little or no drama,” she added.
Alexis is a stay-at-home parent, as is David, who retired last year from his job as a train driver. The couple keeps busy with their team of boys — whose ages range from 2 to 17.
David — who was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease six years ago — does most of the shopping for the family while Alexis completes 49 loads of laundry a week and vacuums seven times a day.
“It’s not easy with so many boys running around, but I like everything neat and tidy. I can’t stand mess,” she said.
Even with David’s “mild symptoms” and ever-growing family, he said he “wouldn’t have it any other way.” However, both he and Alexis agree that time off from school can be challenging.
“The seven-week school summer holidays can also be an endurance test — most of the time they’re just happy on their Xbox or Wii Switch,” he said.
“We’re on our fifth week now, and everyone’s a bit bored. We go to the park, go swimming, to the beach, that sort of thing,” Alexis added.
“Going to the park or beach is fine, swimming is a bit more of a challenge,” she said of keeping track of the kids.
“The oldest ones don’t always come with us because they’re teenagers. We only have six that go out — we can go out in one car, more or less,” she explained.
Their second oldest son, Harrison, 16, can drive — which is helpful, because Alexis cannot. Still, the family has a seven-seater van and a five-seater Range Rover.
“He can take me when I need to go,” Alexis said of her chauffeuring teen.
When it comes to the rooming situation, Alexis said that their house has five bedrooms with three kids per room.
“The elder ones aren’t stuck in with the wee ones. The wee ones stick together, the teenagers are fine together and the younger ones give them space,” she stated.
Alexis also explained that having her nearly 2-year-old daughter in the house calms the rest of her boys down, which is helpful as the family awaits their new sister.
Although she loves her boys, Alexis admits it will be nice to have another girl around. But considering she has spent over eight of the last 18 years pregnant, Alexis is adamant that this will be her last child.
“We’re definitely stopping now,” she said, and admitted that she’s considering sterilization as she must be “immune” to birth control.
“There’ll be no more,” Alexis insisted. “I said that last time, but this time I absolutely mean it. I love my family as it is now.”
