Mom who allegedly killed daughter served time for harassment
The Texas mom-of-four who allegedly killed her 5-year-old daughter because “she was evil” lost custody of her when the girl was a baby — and served time after she threatened to “illegally” snatch the child in a series of unhinged texts.
Melissa White Towne, 37, has been charged with capital murder after she allegedly confessed to stabbing and strangling Nichole Bradshaw to death as her daughter desperately pleaded for her life by screaming: “I’ve been good!”
The monster mom’s court-appointed attorney, James Stafford, told reporters after the hearing that she has been diagnosed as a schizophrenic and has been institutionalized at least nine times due to mental illness.
“There’s no doubt there’s some dark demons haunting her,” Stafford said.
James Bradshaw Jr., Nichole’s dad, had full custody of the child since she was an infant, according to The US Sun, which reported about a series of incidents and texts involving the mother over the years.
In April 2019, Towne was arrested for allegedly trespassing on Bradshaw’s parents’ property and smashing the windshield of his father’s vehicle, the news outlet reported.
She pleaded guilty to criminal mischief and was ordered to pay $803 in fines, The US Sun said.
The year before, Towne was arrested for allegedly harassing Bradshaw’s mother, Kathy, with a series of “vulgar” and “incoherent” messages about Nichole, whom she bizarrely referred to as “Chanel,” according to the report.
At the direction of police, Kathy told Towne to stop contacting her, but the woman didn’t back off and fired back, “OK B— LOL,” the affidavit states.
On May 12, 2018, Towne sent a message that read: “Where is Chanel Kathy because y’all really need to either go give her back to the hospital or y’all need to return her back to me,” the outlet reported, citing court documents.
“Just f—- give me the baby back y’all were [sic] f—- lose in court I’m not even joking with you all f—- send you the f—- s— and a text message give me my daughter back seriously for safety reasons hazardous reasons and some more s—-,” she said in another rambling rant.
And in yet another maniacal missive, one of 49, Towne claimed she was taking Nichole back.
“I am illegally taking possession over Chanel and you need to go get your mental health warrant done and everything you can still see her the bradshaws [sic] can still see her but for now on for the safety and sake of everybody has it [sic] as wise she’s coming back to me,” she wrote in a text.
“Just have him initial it please off of your cell phone and I’ll run it down on his piece of paper that I have the courts [sic] and I’ll have him legally sign the papers in front of me please,” she added.
Towne later pleaded guilty to harassment and was sentenced to 45 days in the slammer.
Towne allegedly told investigators she wanted to kill Nichole “because she was an evil child and did not want to deal with her anymore,” prosecutors said in court Monday, according to KTRK.
When she realized that the child was still alive, she resorted to strangling her for the next 30 to 45 minutes in the murderous frenzy, according to court documents.
Towne then wrapped the girl’s body inside a mesh laundry bag and placed it on the floor of her Jeep Cherokee, which she drove to the HCA Tomball Hospital, according to Harris County sheriff’s deputies.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services said it also is investigating the horrific crime, telling Houston’s KTRK that Towne “does have prior history with CPS, but specific details of CPS investigations are confidential” according to law.
