Moms weigh in on Kourtney Kardashian makeup controversy

Mom of two Beth Greenwood doesn’t care if her 9-year-old daughter Darcy spends hours perfecting her eye shadow, lip gloss and mascara — in fact, she encourages it. 

“She can wear whatever makeup she wants. It’s just a fun form of self-expression,” Greenwood, 41, from Congers, New York, told The Post.

“I don’t discourage her from trying [cosmetic] things she learns on YouTube,” added Greenwood, a tech project manager. “If she wears makeup and adds a little bit of color to her life, it’s not a big deal.”

People were quick to judge when Kourtney Kardashian’s 10-year-old daughter, Penelope Disick, shared her beauty routine — which included under-eye concealer and foundation — on TikTok Friday.

But, some parents say such adult primping has become the norm for elementary school kids who are growing up in an age where contouring and fake lashes are ubiquitous.

In previous generations, girls might have awkwardly experimented with mom’s blue eye shadow and magenta lipstick, now they expertly create a flawless base and apply cheek highlighter.

“It’s no one else’s business [if parents let their kids experiment with makeup],” Greenwood said, noting that beauty products aren’t nearly as suggestive as some of the crop tops and shorts little girls are wearing to school nowadays. 

“I don’t see [makeup] as an ‘adults only’ thing. It’s not illegal, it’s not going to get them in trouble or hurt them,” insisted the upstate New Yorker. “There is a lot in this world that we should be worrying about, and things like kids putting on eye shadow should not be one of them.” 

On TikTok, the hashtag #KidMakeupArtist is used on more than 195,000 clips, featuring itty-bitty beautifiers as young as 4 racking up millions of clicks on their face artistry. A 5-year-old from London named Kassie, who shares visuals of her makeup masterpieces to mom Shab’s 2.8 million followers, has fetched over 40 million views on videos featuring her skilled contouring and color-applying skills. 

But Kourtney Kardashian, 43, was slammed with a wave of hate from digital detractors, who blasted her for allowing Penelope to gussy up in such an adult manner.

“At her age she shouldn’t be contouring [sic] and all that. Yeah, lipstick here and there, but really? SMH poor thing by the time she’s 18 she’s gonna be with implants looking like she’s 30 smh,” barked one disapproving Twitter user.

“[Kourtney Kardashian] I thought you were down to [Earth] how did U think this was normal? Wait, I forgot who your family is,” spat another, punctuating her disappointment with the vomit emoji. 

Elise Cloud, a South Dakota mother of three, sees it both ways. She allows her 10-year-old daughter, Ariah, to wear whatever makeup she wants, although it tends to have a juvenile slant.

Last Christmas, she gifted the girl a vibrant, 35-shade palette that was a collab between beauty company Morphe and Lisa Frank, the company best known for colorful school supplies festooned with unicorns and puppies.

“I think it’s important to teach your kids body autonomy. I think she needs [to know] that she’s in charge of her body, and if she wants to watch a YouTube video and do a bunch of makeup, that’s totally fine,” said the mom.  

“She’s not wearing makeup to cover up under-eye bags. She’s doing it because it’s fun,” Cloud continued. “But if it ever becomes something she’s using [as a crutch] because she thinks she’s not pretty, then I can see it being a problem.“
