Mormon mom Spring Thibaudeau arrested after taking son, 16, to Alaska because she thought he was ‘chosen by God in Second Coming of Christ’

A Mormon mother who fled a Phoenix suburb with her 16-year-old son because she allegedly thought he was chosen by God in the Second Coming of Christ has been arrested.

Spring Thibaudeau and her brother Brook Hale were arrested Friday on full extradition warrants from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office in Arizona.

Thibaudeau was charged with two felony counts of custodial interference.

Hale was handed down a felony warrant for two counts of conspiracy to commit custodial interference, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

The siblings — alongside Thibaudeau’s children Blaze, 16, and Abi, 23 — were found at the Alcan Port of Entry in Alaska by US Customs and Border Protection agents nearly a week after they took off from Arizona.

The children’s father, Ben Thibaudeau, believed Spring Thibaudeau was taking Blaze to a remote location because she thought he was “chosen by God” in the Second Coming of Christ. 

Ben said Thibaudeau saw Blaze as a “Davidic servant who plays a significant role in the Savior’s return,” he told East Idaho News.

“They feel they needed to take him to an undisclosed location where he would receive his calling and understand his role in the Second Coming,” the worried dad told the local outlet earlier this week.

Ben found out that the four had taken off to Idaho – where they were seen on airport surveillance footage – after Abi’s husband, Brayden Snarr, called the father-of-four and said their “worst nightmares have come true.”

Brayden said his wife called him to come home and he found her frantically packing bags and being surrounded by newly purchased emergency supplies.

Thibaudeau became interested in the Second Coming of Christ in 2015, according to her husband.

She engaged in energy healing sessions, which went against the church’s wishes.

She eventually stopped after speaking to a church leader, but eventually began having dreams about it and even involved her daughter in the mania.

Their obsession caused them to stock up on supplies and prepare to live in the mountains.

Ben insisted his other children — including Blaze — did not share in the women’s fascination with the topic.

It is unclear when Thibaudeau and Hale will be extradited to Arizona.

They are in the custody of the Alaska State Troopers.
