Mother of dead teen Trinity Backus needs time to grieve

The mother of a girl who was reported missing in northern California and found dead Friday needs “time, and space to grieve,” a social media post said.

A text-only note posted Saturday to the Instagram Stories for Andrea Stanio, mother of 16-year-old Trinity Backus, pleaded that friends give the heartbroken mom space following the news of her daughter’s death.

“This is Amanda, Andreas [sic] friend,” the note reads. “At this time, Andrea needs time, and space to grieve. … Please do not randomly show up to her home.”

Backus was reported missing Thursday, after disappearing from her aunt’s house off of Kentucky Ravine Road in Nevada City late Wednesday night.

Search and rescue teams found Backus’ body shortly after 2 p.m. Friday half a mile north of where she was last seen, “in a very heavily wooded river drainage area,” the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook statement Friday.

A friend of Andrea Stanio posted a note asking for privacy on behalf of the heartbroken mom.

The sheriff’s office said that there was “nothing suspicious” about her death so far and the cause of her death was as yet unknown. The coroner’s division will conduct a full investigation, including an autopsy.

“Our deep appreciation goes to the hundreds of volunteers from agencies throughout Northern California that have assisted in this search,” the sheriff’s office added.

Backus’ aunt, Ashley Bjorklund, wrote in a series of Facebook posts this week that her niece took off from her home around 10:30 p.m. local time Wednesday, wearing only pajamas and no shoes. Backus had a friend sleeping over when she disappeared, Fox News reported.
