Nancy Pelosi’s husband was at dinner party before DUI bust: attorney
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was driving home from a dinner party when he was in a crash while allegedly driving drunk, his attorney has revealed.
“Mr. Pelosi was attending a dinner party at the home of friends near Oakville,” Paul Pelosi’s attorney, Paul Kramer, told Fox News’ Chad Pergram of Saturday night’s bust in upscale Napa Valley, California.
“He left that party at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, to drive to his home a short distance away. He was alone in his car,” Kramer stated of the arrest five miles from Pelosi’s multi-million-dollar vineyard.
He insisted that the 82-year-old house speaker’s husband had stopped at the intersection before turning onto State Route-29 when his 2021 Porsche “was hit on the back fender by a Jeep.”
However, ABC7 footage from the scene showed a long strip of fencing crumpled on the ground alongside a downed street sign.
“Mr. Pelosi was fully cooperative with California Highway Patrol officers who arrived a few minutes later,” he said.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 10:26 p.m. — around 10 minutes after the former venture capitalist is said to have left the party. He was then arrested at 11:44 p.m., the force said, without explaining the gap of more than an hour.
Kramer insisted to Fox News that many earlier reports “misstate the timing of events.”
“Mr. Pelosi left the dinner party at 10:15 p.m. Saturday. The incident happened a few minutes later. CHP and Napa County processing took until 7:30 a.m. Sunday,” he insisted.
Pelosi — who has been married to the leading Democrat, also 82, since 1963 — was charged with one count of driving under the influence and another for driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher. Both charges are misdemeanors. He was released on $5,000 bail.
The 48-year-old driver of the Jeep involved in the crash told ABC7 he was just thankful no one was hurt, the station said.
