Spalletti will ‘go home’ if fans don’t back team

Napoli’s superb season has hit the rocks in recent weeks.

A 4-0 home thrashing by Milan earlier this month saw some fans show their discontent towards ticket prices and president Aurelio De Laurentiis by watching the game in silence and with their backs turned to the pitch.

Napoli head coach Luciano Spalletti has pleaded with supporters not to offer up a repeat this week.

“We’re winning the championship after 33 years, we were playing an important game and to see that ‘everyone against everyone’ is something that I’ll never understand and that I’ll always carry with me,” he said after the first-leg loss to Milan.

“If the same thing happens in the return match, I’ll leave the bench and go home. Because it’s an inexplicable thing. The boys are sensitive to what happens around them and against Milan at the Maradona we played in an absurd atmosphere. We were taken hostage.”

Napoli are set to welcome back star striker Osimhen.

The 24-year-old came off the bench late in the goalless draw with Verona at the weekend and Spalletti has confirmed he will start against Milan.

“Osimhen has this physicality and speed, you can throw the ball up to him and he can protect it, use his head or use a change of pace, he has so many different alternatives.

“He is a hero of these fans now, so there is always a wave of enthusiasm around him.”

Napoli are 14 points clear at the top of Serie A while Milan are fourth, 22 points behind and two ahead of fifth-placed Inter.
