New ad blasting Biden over immigration airs during World Series

A new political ad blasting President Biden over issues like illegal immigration and the state of the economy aired Friday during Game 1 of the World Series.

“How did we get here?” the ad begins, lamenting “low wages, high inflation, record crime” and “illegal immigration from places as far away as Pakistan.”

The ad, broadcast 11 days out from the midterm elections, was paid for by Citizens for Sanity and appeared to be targeting Latino voters — with the narrator speaking with a clear Hispanic accent.

“Our cities are a mess. Public services are a nightmare. But instead of helping us, Joe Biden has sent $66 billion to Ukraine. Weapons worth billions more. And now, Joe Biden says his fight in Ukraine could lead to nuclear Armageddon. World War III.

“You know what I say? No mas,“ the ad concludes.

The group behind the commercial has paid for numerous provocative ads during the 2022 election cycle, with many mocking progressive causes and politicians in swing states ahead of Election Day.

Citizens for Sanity is reportedly connected to officials in former President Donald Trump’s administration, according to OpenSecrets, a nonprofit organization that tracks money in politics.

The group has run other ads during the Major League Baseball playoffs in certain media markets focusing on the border crisis. Some have jarred viewers. Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Inquirer called one of them “violent” and “vile.”

The Philadelphia Inquirer also reported on Friday that a top Democratic political group will run ads as well during Game 1 in the Philadelphia media highlighting Dr. Mehmet Oz’s comments on abortion rights.

Major League Baseball says it is not responsible for deciding what political ads run during game telecasts.

“Networks make the decision on what political ads to run,” an MLB spokesperson told The Athletic on Friday. “MLB does not believe it should be in the role of censoring political advertising.”
