New musical based on Muhammad Ali’s life coming to Broadway
A brand-new Broadway musical based on the life of boxing legend Muhammad Ali was announced Wednesday in a partnership with Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali.
The show, which has yet to announce any casting or premiere dates, will be helmed by Olivier-nominated director Clint Dyer and will also feature the music of Teddy Adams, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“Ali’s examples of grace, passion, strength of spirit, cool under fire and smiling through it all, has been a great model for millions to aspire to live by, myself included,” said producer Richard Willis.
“We are excited to honor Ali’s life and legacy theatrically; it makes for an extraordinarily entertaining and impactful new musical for the world to enjoy.”
Ali’s wife, Lonnie, also issued her own statement, saying how happy she was to bring her late husband’s legacy to life.
“Muhammad has been a muse and continues to be a source of inspiration to so many artists around the world,” Ali said.
“I’m so proud to support this project and am thrilled to see his story brought to life on the Broadway stage.”

Currently, the musical is expected to go beyond the boxing ring and also focus on Ali’s life as an activist.
“Over the course of his life, Muhammad fought for justice and humanity,” said producing partner Dana Carpenter, “and all along the way he disarmed the world with his humor, generosity and gentle ways.”
