New York City to be hit with rain, thunder as storms pound East Coast through weekend
An East Coast deluge is expected through the weekend as two separate systems swing through the region.
The first system began Friday morning and brought rain to the Carolinas and the Mid-Atlantic region before moving into the Northeast by Friday evening. It will stick around through Saturday.
Heavy rain, clouds likely to ruin many outdoor weekend plans
The second system will continue from the severe storms that impacted Texas on Friday.
This rain will be present in the lower Mississippi Valley and the Southeast on Saturday, bringing a severe weather threat there and into Florida, before quickly moving up the East Coast on Sunday, making for a soggy end to the weekend.
It will wind down in the Northeast and New England on Monday.
Already about 1.5 inches of rain fell in the Washington, D.C. area Friday with storm totals reaching as much as 3 to 5 inches of rain by Monday morning.
This will once again have minimal severe weather, but the heavy rain and clouds will likely ruin many outdoor plans.
“As we look at Saturday’s threat, New York City is in it as well as Sunday,” said FOX Weather Meteorologist Britta Merwin. “So, again, it’s not so much what we’re just getting (Friday). It’s the compounded impact of multiple days of showers and storms that could lead to some localized flooding.”
