Newcastle enter race to sign Chelsea’s Mason Mount, Mauricio Pochettino eyes Tottenham Hotspur reunion – Paper Round

Newcastle join Liverpool in Mount battle

Newcastle United have joined Liverpool in the pursuit of Chelsea star Mason Mount. The England international’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024 and contract negotiations have stalled between the two parties. Chelsea would be willing to sell Mount this summer in a bid to avoid losing him for free in 2024.

The Mail reveal: “The Blues are determined not to lose Mount for nothing when his deal runs out and so if an extension cannot be agreed this summer, they will look to sell him.

“Liverpool are keen on the 24-year-old, but Sportsmail understands Newcastle are also now in the hunt.

“Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus are also said to be interested in the 36-cap international’s signature if Chelsea do decide to cash in.”

Pochettino eye Spurs reunion

Mauricio Pochettino would be open to a romantic return to Tottenham Hotspur if current boss Antonio Conte were to leave. The Time report that the “homesick” Italian manager could leave Spurs before the end of the season if they crash out of the Champions League at the hands of AC Milan on Wednesday. This would open the door to a potential return for Pochettino.

The Times report: “Mauricio Pochettino wants to return to Tottenham Hotspur if they part ways with Antonio Conte this summer.

“The 51-year-old from Argentina is among the names being considered by Tottenham to replace Conte, who is increasingly likely to return to Italy at — or before — the end of the season.

“[Pochettino] would probably be among the names under consideration by Real Madrid if Carlo Ancelotti leaves this summer, as would Thomas Tuchel, who may also be of interest to Tottenham.”

Arsenal cult hero could leave for free

Arsenal hero Reiss Nelson is set for a tough decision at the end of the season. The 23-year-old, who scored a last-gasp winner against Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, is rapidly approaching the expiration date on his contract. The Sun state that Nelson’s Arsenal future is in the balance as he has attracted interest from multiple clubs.

The Sun report: “An exit from the club he has been with for 14 years looked more likely than ever when he was left out of the squad for the wins over Everton and Leicester.

“Brighton and Ligue 1 side Nice are interested in signing him if he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.

“However, injuries to Leandro Trossard, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus are set to give him a much-needed opportunity, so his future remains in the balance.”

Leicester to launch summer rebuild

Leicester City are planning a summer rebuild in a bid to balance the books at the club amid severe financial struggles. The Foxes, who are entrenched in a Premier League relegation battle, “announced losses of £92.5m over a 12-month period ending last May”.

The Mail report: “The priority is to balance the books and chief executive Susan Whelan indicated strongly that Leicester will follow the model that has served them well in the past – namely selling a key player every summer.

“That would likely mean star man James Maddison departing while Harvey Barnes could also attract interest.”
