NH Gov. Sununu demands Biden apologize for ‘fascism’ remarks

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu demanded President Biden apologize to Republicans after he compared former President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement to “semi-fascism.”

Sununu, a Republican, said Biden’s remarks to supporters last week at a Democratic rally in Maryland were “horribly insulting.”

“The fact that the president would go out and just insult half of America, because, effectively, half of America votes Republican, half of America ultimately votes Democrat,” Sununu said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“It swings a little bit one way or the other, but effectively call half of America semi-fascist, because he’s trying to stir up controversy, he’s trying to stir up this anti-Republican sentiment right before the election, it’s just — it’s horribly inappropriate,” he continued.

“It’s insulting. And people should be insulted by it. And he should apologize.”

The governor went on to condemn such “extreme” rhetoric in both parties.

“You can see elements of fascism and white supremacy all — in America. Let’s own that as Americans. There’s no doubt. And we can say that all the Democrats are communists, they’re all ultra-socialist communist that just want to bring down our free capitalistic market. That’s not true of Democrats either,” he said.

“So, when we allow ourselves just to talk in these extremes, we polarize the country. We bring people — bring people further apart. If I remember, this was the guy, the candidate at the time … to be president that said he was going to bring everybody together. And then to call half of America fascists, come on,” Sununu continued.

Biden, speaking at a Democratic National Committee rally in Maryland last Thursday, urged his supporters to vote in the midterms, saying the Republican Party has veered too far right for most Americans.

“What we’re seeing now is either the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy,” Biden said

“It’s not just Trump, it’s the entire philosophy that underpins the – I’m going to say something: It’s like semi-fascism.”

Asked by reporters the next day at the White House what he meant by the comment, Biden just laughed.

“You know what I mean,” he answered.
