Nick Kyrgios fires back at Stefanos Tsitsipas over new dig on Wimbledon match – ‘He hit someone in the crowd’

Nick Kyrgios has hit back at fresh comments from Stefanos Tsitsipas relating to the pair’s tempestuous clash at Wimbledon last year.

Tsitsipas swatted one ball into the crowd as Kyrgios won the first set, and another out of Centre Court. He received a warning for his actions, and the Australian requested that the umpire, Damien Dumusois, issued his opponent a default.

“In 2022 [at] Wimbledon, I was only trying to compete, while he was playing the clown. It also depends on how he wakes up each day.”

Kyrgios saw this quote appear on social media and swiftly launched his uncompromising response.

“Right… this [was] the match [when] he hit someone in the crowd…” he began on Twitter.

“[He] belted another ball out of the stadium and got taught a lesson in front of another full stadium…”

“In the Wimbledon match, Kyrgios decided to ignore the general rules of sports. The match became very strange and nervous because he was playing ‘dirty’ tennis.

“Stefanos doesn’t play like that. He completely lost his temper due to the behaviour of his opponent and lost the match without being any worse on the court.”

It was not a complete disaster for the unlikely team-mates, however, as they only lost via consecutive tie-breaks to Hubert Hurkacz and Dominic Stricker.
