‘No way, no way’ – Judd Trump benefits from monster fluke against Cao Yupeng at Championship League
Judd Trump was in good form during Stage 2 of the Championship League, but also had a large slice of luck on his side at the Morningside Arena.
The former world No. 1 is looking to bounce back to his best after an indifferent season last term.
That set him up nicely for Stage 2 on Thursday, and he opened up with two centuries in a victory over Matthew Stevens.
Trump’s second match was against Cao Yupeng, and he was aided by a monster fluke in a 2-2 draw.
Trump got down to try and cut a red from a tight angle into the bottom left.
He made a complete mess of it, so much so that the white careered into a loose red on the other side of the table and sent it into the right middle.
“Hang on, no way, no way,” said David Hendon on commentary. “That is an almighty result.
Trump did not take advantage of the fluke as despite dropping perfectly on the blue, he failed to make a winning contribution and Cao fought back to claim a 2-2 draw.
Trump has one match remaining in Group B against Joe Perry later on Thursday. His fate may be sealed by that time, as Cao faces Stevens first and a 3-0 win would take him through to Stage 3.
