NYPD cops shoot, kill 20-year-old gunman who opened fire on a pair on NYC street

NYPD officers shot dead a gunman who they said opened fire on two people he was chasing on a Brooklyn street Monday evening.

The cops were searching for a possible shooter in East Flatbush after multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunshots, seeing a man with a firearm and witnessing a dispute just before 6 p.m.

Four officers who were canvassing the neighborhood in an unmarked car turned the corner at East 57th Street and Remsen Avenue and stumbled upon the dramatic pursuit, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said.

The 20-year-old suspect was running after another man and a woman while shooting a gun at them, he said.

“Our officers jump out quickly. They take care of the threat,” Chell said.

The suspect was shot “numerous times” and pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital, according to the chief.

The two people he was chasing were not injured.

“Once again tonight, you see New York City police officers running towards danger, running in the middle of gunfire, stopping the threat and saving two people’s lives,” Chell said at a press conference near the same intersection.

The officers involved were taken to local hospitals for observation.

A 60-year-old man was shot on a nearby block but it’s immediately unclear how.

“We’re not sure how that occurred,” Chell said.

He is expected to survive his injuries, police said.
