Ollie Robinson fit to link up with England ahead of Ireland Test at Lord’s following ankle concerns

Seamer Ollie Robinson is fit to link up with his England team-mates ahead of facing Ireland in the summer’s first Test at Lord’s following ankle concerns.

Robinson has become an integral part of England’s fast-bowling ranks over recent seasons, and will be one of the first names on the team sheet for this summer’s Ashes against Australia.

As such there would have been concern for England coach Brendon McCullum when the Sussex quick experienced pain during his county’s draw with Glamorgan last week.

‘So be it’ – Anderson happy to sit out Ireland test if it means he is fit for Ashes

But after the 29-year-old was sent for a scan, no serious issue was highlighted, with an irritated tendon reported to be the cause, per BBC Sport.

Though Robinson is in the squad for the Ireland Test – which runs from June 1-4 – it is unlikely he will be risked, with such an important summer ahead and given the problems England already have with fast bowler availabiity.

Jimmy Anderson is currently recovering from a minor groin strain, Jofra Archer is out for the season with a recurrent elbow issue, Olly Stone has a hamstring strain, and Jamie Overton is still on the way back from a troublesome back.

The first Ashes Test begins on June 16 at Edgbaston.

Robinson has been bullish about England’s chances in the upcoming summer of Ashes cricket.

“The way we’re playing cricket at the moment, we feel like we can really stick one on them and win the series comfortably,” Robinson told press back in March.

“There’s definitely a desire there still, a hunger to put it right [the heavy 4-0 series loss Down Under in the previous Ashes in 2021-22].

“I felt when I got back from that trip I didn’t leave it all out there and I’d let myself down and the side down a little bit.

“There’s a lot of hungry boys this summer wanting to beat the Aussies again…it’s one of the biggest series we play, so why not talk it up?”
