Parade and more to watch, stream
It’s time to do your best turkey trot.
Thanksgiving 2023 has arrived, and whether you’re doing a big family celebration or a more quiet affair, there’s plenty to watch on TV.
From streaming classic movies, to marathons, here’s your essential guide on what to watch.
“David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived”
This documentary is about David Holmes, a former stunt man on the “Harry Potter” films who broke his neck and became paralyzed in an accident. While that subject matter sounds grim, Holmes’ resilience is ultimately inspiring, and the connection to “Harry Potter” makes it have broad appeal as a Thanksgiving watch for multiple generations. Daniel Radcliffe is also in the doc (and produces it).
Where to watch: Max.
“Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas”
The feel-good soccer comedy “Ted Lasso” was a hit, so a holiday special involving star Hannah Waddingham should also be a crowd-pleasing watch. The musical event, now streaming, was recorded live in front of an audience at the London Coliseum, and will follow the Emmy-winning actress performing festive classics accompanied by a big band. She’s joined by a slew of special guests, including Sam Ryder, Luke Evans, Leslie Odom Jr. and her “Ted Lasso” co-star Phil Dunster.
Where to watch: AppleTV+.
“Garfield’s Thanksgiving”
This animated special originally aired on CBS in 1989 — and earned an Emmy nomination (for animated program). It follows Garfield the cat (Lorenzo Music) as he gets put on a diet right around the holiday.
Where to watch: Peacock, Prime Video.
“EXmas”
If you want a Christmas rom-com, this is a new one that recently came out. Starring Robbie Amell and Leighton Meester, it’s about a couple that broke up nearly a decade ago, but Ali (Meester) is still close with Graham’s (Amell) family. When Graham can’t make it home for the holidays, Ali accepts an invitation to spend it with his family, thinking that Graham doesn’t need to know – but matters become awkward when he unexpectedly makes it home.
Where to watch: Amazon Freevee.
“Modern Family”
TBS is having a marathon of various Thanksgiving episodes from “Modern Family.” Join Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell), Haley (Sarah Hyland), Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and the rest of the gang in episodes such as “Three Turkeys,” “Thanksgiving Jamboree,” “Winner Winner Turkey Dinner” and “The Last Thanksgiving.”
Where to watch: TBS on Thursday, Nov. 23, between 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
“A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving”
Join Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus and Snoopy for the classic animated special, first released in 1965. Charlie Brown and his friends all have a feast, led by Peppermint Patty, and Snoopy and Woodstock then have their own celebration.
Where to watch: AppleTV+.
