Paramount ‘very confident’ Kevin Costner will return to ‘Yellowstone’
Kevin Costner may be staying on for more “Yellowstone” after all.
Paramount network exec Keith Cox appeared at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for PaleyFest over the weekend and gave some insight into the fate of Costner’s character, John Dutton.
Cox’s speech came amid much chatter about whether the “Dances with Wolves” star, 68, will return to the western drama.
“What I can say is our star, the face of our show, and executive producer, are very confident he is going to continue with our show,” Cox said at the event, according to Insider.
Paramount’s president of development and production went on to note that the show will be filming the next season “soon.”
The Season 5 midseason finale aired on Jan. 1 and more episodes are set to follow, with Cox calling them “phenomenal.”
Showrunner Taylor Sheridan, Costner and other stars Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Gil Birmingham and Wes Bentley did make appearances at PaleyFest.
The cast was previously scheduled to attend, but a half hour before the bash was set to begin, the press was notified that only Wendy Moniz, Mo Bring Plenty, Dawn Olivieri and Josh Lucas would be there.
Since February, there have been rumors surrounding the possible cancellation of the TV series, should Costner choose not to return.
Speculation about the Oscar winner’s exit has been attributed to him reportedly having disagreements over shooting schedules.
A Paramount Network rep told The Post that the filmmaker is a “key component” of the series, as rumors swirled that the show could be reaching its conclusion in the near future.
“As we previously stated, Kevin has been a key component of the success of our ‘Yellowstone’ series, and we hope that continues from here on out,” the spokesperson explained.
Costner’s attorney Marty Singer slammed reports that his work ethic was causing trouble on set.
“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of ‘Yellowstone’ is an absolute lie,” the lawyer told Puck News in February.
“It’s ridiculous — and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second,” he continued. “As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”
