Patrick Dempsey’s People’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ title roasted online
Silver fox Patrick Dempsey has been named People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2023.
While it has been a long time coming for the 57-year-old to earn the spot, not everyone is happy with the choice.
Fans took to X to show both their disappointment — as well as their joy — over the “Grey’s Anatomy” alum’s cover.
“Why are these always so random like Patrick Dempsey hasn’t even done anything this year. did I miss something,” a user wrote alongside a gallery of “People” magazine covers of the hottest men in the industry.
“Did I travel back in time to 2005 like the smash hit TV show ‘Bodies’ on Netflix because—and love him to bits but—how is Patrick Dempsey, in the year of Beyoncé 2023 the sexist man alive?” a person wondered.
There were others who scoffed at the idea that the “Scream 3” alum should be the winner and wished that Pedro Pascal of “The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian” fame should have been chosen instead.
“Pedro pascal is the sexiest man alive of 2023. Sorry people, sorry Patrick Dempsey,” an X user scribed.
Someone else shook their head: “Excuse me? Did People magazine forget that the beginning of the year was dominated by Pedro Pascal… He should have had this in the bag. You had one job & you failed.”
“Beauty is subjective & Patrick D. is an attractive man. With that said, that title is 15 years too late. Should have gotten it during McDreamy era,” a person stated. “This year belonged to Pedro Pascal, OBJECTIVELY. Media HARASSED this man as ‘daddy’ for a fucking year, & this is the end result?”
But some commenters were a little more forgiving and loved Dempsey’s cover.
“I actually won’t stand for this patrick dempsey hate because let’s not act like this isn’t one of the finest men that has graced gods green earth,” one said.
Someone else penned: “Patrick dempsey BEEN sexiest man alive since he said its a beautiful day to save lives that first time in 2005 [on ABC’s ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’]”
“Everyone saying patrick dempsey is the ‘wrong choice’ is lying through their teeth that man is sexiest men of not only this year but maybe even the last 3 decades,” another chimed in.
In his People profile, McDreamy himself opened up about finally receiving being crowned the Sexiest Man in Hollywood.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life,” the “Can’t Buy Me Love” actor joked. “It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive.”
He then recalled how he felt when he got the call from the publication, noting: “I was completely shocked!”
“Then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” the Maine native quipped.
“I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
