Peloton, AllSaints among brands shutting down for late Queen’s funeral ‘out of respect’
Queen Elizabeth II’s death not only sent shockwaves across the globe, it heavily impacted the e-commerce world.
After news of Her Majesty’s death aged 96 came to light on Thursday, countless famous brands rushed to social media to pay their respects to the late monarch.
While some brands only posted tributes, others went a step further and announced widespread closures for Sept. 19 — the day of the Queen’s state funeral.
Among those brands was Peloton. The at-home workout company, which also runs in-person live classes from their NYC and London studios, announced they will be pausing classes from their London studios starting Sept. 8 until Sept. 12.
“We’re pausing live classes. As a mark of respect, classes out of Peloton Studios London will be canceled for the remainder of the day and until Monday 12 September 2022,” Peloton wrote on Instagram. “For on-demand classes, please check our library. Live and on-demand classes from Peloton Studios New York are unaffected.”
Burberry confirmed it will be canceling its Spring/Summer 2023 runway show “as a mark of respect.” The show was due to take place on Sept. 17. The Raf Simons show was also canceled.
The hotly-anticipated London Fashion Week, which comes hot on the heels of New York Fashion Week, was due to take place from Sept. 16 until Sept. 20. However, the British Fashion Council announced there will be some changes to this year’s line-up as a result of the Queen’s death.
The British Fashion Council asked “that designers respect the mood of the nation and period of national mourning by considering the timing of their image release.”
It recommended brands to postpone or cancel “non-essential” events out of respect.
British fashion brand AllSaints also announced a planned closure, writing on Instagram, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”
“As a mark of our respect, we will be closing our stores, distribution centers, and office buildings throughout the UK and Canada on Monday 19th September,” it added.
The sports world is also experiencing cancelations.
In soccer, the Premier League confirmed all upcoming games this week are not taking place.
“As a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed,” the Premier League tweeted.
