Peter Sagan crashes out of final Paris-Roubaix as cobbles cause chaos – ‘Absolutely no luck’

Peter Sagan’s final outing at Paris-Roubaix ended in disappointment as he was forced to abandon following a crash.

The Slovakian was among a number of riders to be caught out by an incident on the three-star sector between Viesly and Quievy, with 151km remaining of the cobbled Monument.

His abandonment was confirmed shortly after, with TotalEnergies also seeing Daniel Oss and Maciej Bodnar exit the race early on in a disastrous outing for the team.

“He’s having absolutely no luck in his final season whatsoever,” said Dan Lloyd on Eurosport commentary.

The crash was swiftly followed by another, this time at the front of the peloton, as Ineos Grenadiers duo Luke Rowe and Joshua Tarling hit the deck as the race returned to the tarmac.

“It might be a nice dry sunny day but we’ve had so much rain in the lead-up to this race, there’s still plenty of water on the sides,” continued Lloyd.

“And with another race happening the day before, all the lead cars that go through before the race, it just pushes all that mud and water onto the cobblestones.

“It’s almost better to have a completely wet Roubaix, where you’re aware all the time of how slippery it’s going to be.”
