‘Petty’ Meghan and Harry may ‘upstage’ coronation with Archie party: report
“Petty” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could upstage King Charles’ coronation by holding a birthday bash for their son, Archie, one royal expert claims.
The little prince is set to turn 4 on May 6 — the same day his grandfather will be officially crowned and anointed in a historic ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
While the eyes of the world will be on the royal proceedings, royal columnist Lee Cohen claims the Sussexes may make a grab for the limelight by holding a competing celebration for their son.
“It’s terribly petty, but the Sussexes, who no longer have their royal platform, seem to relish any opportunity to attempt to upstage a royal occasion,” Cohen told the Express.
“It’s not as if the royal family seek occasions to upstage the antics of the Sussexes, quite the opposite.”
Last week it was revealed that Archie won’t be in attendance at Charles’ coronation. Instead, the youngster will stay home in Montecito, California, with mom Markle and baby sister Princess Lilibet.
That news has only fueled rumors that Markle will hold a party for her boy, with the Mirror quoting a source as saying: “Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland will be at the bash, along with Archie’s pre-school friends and some celebrity pals of the couple.”
The publication claims Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may be in attendance if indeed there is a May 6 celebration.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry has confirmed he will jet to London for the coronation, but he is only expected to stay in the city for hours.
The Mirror reports the wayward royal may even make it back home to Montecito for Archie’s birthday on the afternoon of May 6.
A source told Page Six that there will be a celebration for Archie, but insists it will be low-key.
“Harry’s going to make every effort to get back in time for Archie’s birthday,” the source stated. “It’s going to be an intimate party, it’s not going to be like ‘My Super Sweet 16’ or Portia de Rossi’s 50th!”
Even if there is no large-scale birthday party, the Sussexes could still take some attention away from the coronation by releasing a new photo of Archie, Cohen argued.
The royal columnist explains that it is customary for the couple to release images of their children to mark their milestone birthdays, and this year may be no exception.
However, others have defended the right for the Sussexes to throw a party for Archie, saying that the royal family was petty for choosing to hold the coronation on his birthday in the first place.
“May 6 is Archie’s birthday and has been since 2019. That date was selected by that collection of people in London to overshadow a toddler’s birthday,” one Sussex supporter declared on Twitter.
Speculation about Archie’s birthday comes amid drama surrounding the upcoming coronation.
One report claims that King Charles is “disappointed” Markle will not attend the ceremony.
However, another source alleged that sister-in-law Kate Middleton “blocked” the ex-actress from attending.
