Plane crashes after landing at Mogadishu, Somali, airport
A passenger plane was caught on camera veering off a runway and crashing just moments after landing in Somali’s capital Tuesday — and miraculously there were only minor injuries onboard, authorities said.
The Halla Airlines flight carrying 30 passengers and four crew members plowed off the runway after touching down at Mogadishu’s international airport just before 12:30 p.m. local time, VOA Somali reported.
Surveillance footage from the ordeal showed the aircraft crashing through a fence just off the runway as debris flew through the air.
“There was no fatality from the accident except minor injuries,” the Somali Civil Aviation Authority said.
Images posted on social media showed the Halla Airlines plane with a partially detached cockpit lying next to a low concrete wall in the wake of the crash.
The pilot didn’t report any issues prior to the ordeal, according to authorities.
An official told the outlet that early indications suggested pilot error was to blame.
“Facts will be established once the cockpit voice recorder and black box are analyzed,” said the official, who didn’t want to be named.
The SCAA said it was still probing the cause of the incident.
