PnB Rock’s hit ‘Selfish’ tops Apple charts days after rapper’s murder
Slain rapper PnB Rock has the top of the charts “all to himself” three days after his death.
The late recording artist’s 2016 hit “Selfish” was the most streamed song in the US on Apple Music on Thursday and the second most listened to song internationally on the platform.
The song — with a refrain of “I want you all to myself” — has a trap beat under PnB’s singing and verses.
The 30-year-old Philadelphia native, whose real name is Rakim Hasheem Allen, was shot by a robber at a Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Los Angeles Monday afternoon.
The suspect, who was still at large, had targeted PnB Rock for his jewelry and fled in a getaway car, according to The Los Angeles Times.
PnB Rock had been dining with his girlfriend, who reportedly tagged his location on Instagram. Police were investigating if her public real-time disclosure of his whereabouts led to the fatal robbery, the newspaper reported.
Atlantic Records, the musician’s label, released a statement Tuesday calling him “more than an artist.”
“To many, Rakim Allen was a great friend. He was also a wonderful father to two beautiful little girls,” Atlantic said.
“This news is heavy on our hearts and we are all hurting over this senseless loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.”
PnB Rock is at least the seventh notable rapper murdered in the US over the past year.
