President Biden celebrates son Hunter’s 54th birthday at LA hotspot with big hug
President Biden celebrated Hunter Biden’s birthday at a swanky Los Angeles hotspot Sunday as the scandal-plagued first son faces a slew of weapon and tax fraud charges.
The Biden men were photographed hugging outside The Ivy, an upscale Beverly Hills restaurant popular among Hollywood stars, where they dined for Hunter’s 54th birthday.
They were joined by Hunter’s 3-year-old son Beau Biden who held his dad’s hand while his grandfather bent down to kiss the youngester.
President Biden was visiting California with First Lady Jill Biden while campaigning for reelection.
The president has stood by his son despite the federal charges’ stain on his campaign.
Hunter Biden is awaiting trial for a felony gun case in Delaware and is also facing nine counts related to tax fraud in Southern California.
He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
Hunter’s lawyers tried to get the federal judge in the firearm case to drop the charges against him in a flurry of motions filed Tuesday. They argued for dismissal based on four reasons, including that the charges were politically motivated, according to the filings.
The motions were filed after Special Council David Weiss’ Jan. 16 rebuttal to Hunter’s first attempt to convince District Judge Maryellen Noreika to drop the case — which stemmed from when he purchased a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver while addicted to crack cocaine and lying about his drug use.
The first son was initially expected to receive sweeping immunity protection under a plea agreement he reached with federal prosecutors, but the deal fell apart in a Delaware courtroom this past July.
In December, Hunter found himself in deeper hot water when was slapped with nine charges — including three felonies — for allegedly dodging more than $1 million in taxes over four years while living a hard-partying, “extravagant” life.
Hunter is expected to go to trial for the two separate cases. He faces up to 25 years in jail on the weapons charge and 17 years for the tax fraud felonies.
