‘Price Is Right’ suffered for ‘years’
Bob Barker’s cause of death has reportedly been ruled a result of Alzheimer’s disease.
TMZ reported Tuesday that the beloved “Price Is Right” host’s death certificate claims the 99-year-old suffered from the disease — something he dealt with “years” before his death last month.
Barker’s longtime rep Roger Neal declined to comment Tuesday when contacted by The Post but provided a statement from Barker’s longtime girlfriend, Nancy Burnet, which reads, “Up to two months before Bob Barker’s passing, he routinely participated in conversation and bedside exercises.”
Barker, a longtime vegetarian, never publicly announced he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, but did star in a 2013 PSA for PETA which claimed not eating meat could help prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
A PETA spokesperson told The Post on Tuesday, “Dietary studies show that Bob was right: going vegan isn’t a magic bullet but it certainly gives people a leg up in preventing or putting off the onset of Alzheimer’s and Bob, lucid into his vast old age, made it to 99, a pretty good example.”
The game show host passed at his Hollywood Hills home on Aug. 26. It was previously said that he died of natural causes.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker, has left us,” Neal confirmed to The Post at the time.
Barker hosted “Truth or Consequences” from 1956 to 1975, and in 1972, was asked to host and produce CBS’ revival of “The Price is Right.”
He did so for more than three decades until his final episode aired on June 15, 2007.
Barker officially passed his hosting duties along to comedian Drew Carey, who reacted to Barker’s death via X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“Very sad day for the Price Is Right family, and animal lovers all over the world,” Carey, 65, wrote. “There hasn’t been a day on set that I didn’t think of Bob Barker and thank him. I will carry his memory in my heart forever. #RIPBobBarker We love you.”
Barker had numerous bouts of skin cancer throughout his life due to frequent tanning.
In 2015, he suffered a fall outside of his LA home and hurt his left knee. Barker was taken to a hospital and got stitches in the forehead.
He suffered a less serious fall again in June 2017 and was rushed to the hospital in October and November 2018 for severe back pain.
