Pricey pilates studio offers $100 credit only if you tattoo their logo on your body, ‘avoid cheeky areas’ — quickly mocked as ‘cult’
Talk about a company wanting their members to go all out for them — literally.
A pilates studio called Solidcore is turning heads on social media after revealing they are encouraging members to brand themselves with a tattoo of their logo to celebrate their 10-year anniversary, according to several posts put out by content creators.
But there’s a bonus for those who choose to get inked: a reward of $100 in class credit, the terms and conditions read in the email Solidcore sent out to all existing members.
“Be a part of our community forever with a Solidcore tattoo,” the strange email reads.
“In order to validate your purchase, we’re requesting a photo of you with your tattoo, along with your proof of purchase…” another part of the email read.
Even more bizarre, there’s a specific placement on the body where the company would like for the body art to be shown, while also emphasizing the “recommended max size” of the tattoo at 3×3 in size.
“We encourage you to pick a location that keeps the photo tasteful and avoid any areas that might be a bit too cheeky,” the email says.
The member must also get their tattoo by a certain deadline — between Nov. 1 to Nov. 14.
Social media users bashed the high-end pilates studio chain, accusing the company of being cult-like for the promotion that doesn’t even compensate a member with real money.
“What in the black mirror is this? What is this culty [cult] s–t? Imagine if you got a tattoo for the YMCA, like, that’s just so weird,” a content creator said in a TikTok video viewed more than 49,000 times.
“For their tenth anniversary, if you get one of these four Solidcore tattoos, they’ll reimburse you but not in cash, in $100 worth of Solidcore credit,” she sarcastically added while showing viewers the email.
The promotional email then informs participants they have up to four “approved tattoos” to choose from.
Another content creator, who goes by the name of Eli Rallo on TikTok, warned people in a video not to get the tattoo, while also sharing her not so well experience when she went to a Solidcore location.
“This is terrifying, don’t get the tattoo. Don’t get the tattoo for two-and-a-half pilates classes, it’s not worth it. This is quite crazy,” ” she starts out.
“I thought the vibes in there were horrible every time. I was, like, for $40 the vibes are heinous,” she continued. “I always felt if I did the modifications [exercises] I was failing the class based on the way they spoke.”
Solidcore is a full body intensifying workout that works the muscles with more slow-paced movements to activate slow-twitch muscle fibers, there website describes.
The popular pilates club was founded in Washington, DC by American entrepreneur Anne Mahlum in 2013, with locations across the country offering classes from $30 to $45.
Other platforms like Reddit also slammed the promotion, with users making it a laughing stock for anyone who chooses to get the tattoo.
“They are out of their damn mind,” said one user. “The cost of getting the tattoo alone would probably be more than the credit reimbursement lmao.”
“If I’m getting a permanent tattoo of their logo, I want free classes for as long as the tattoo is on my body lmao,” another Reddit replier joked.
