Prince Harry ‘wild lad died’ when he met Meghan Markle: royal author

She really left her Markle.

According to author Valentine Low’s new book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, Prince Harry, 38, used to be “quite a wild lad” before he married Meghan Markle, 41, in 2018.

Low wrote about how Harry and his brother Prince William both lead very different lives, carved out with the help of their former private secretary Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton.

According to the book, Lowther-Pinkerton helped William, 40, “steer a course through life.”

However, with Harry, a certain path was “more complex”.

“Eventually, of course, the problem would resolve itself, but not in a way that Lowther-Pinkerton or anyone else imagined. The wild lad died the day Harry met Meghan Markle,” Low penned.

Harry had a slew of scandals before his marriage to Markle.

The Invictus Games founder lived a hard-partying life before settling down and having his two kids, Archie and Lilibet. He often made the tabloids for his outlandish antics such as fighting with paparazzi outside a nightclub back in 2004 and dressing up as a Nazi for Halloween.

Prince Harry’s other scandals included being sent to rehab for one day and being photographed naked during a vacation in Las Vegas.

Meghan Markle reportedly helped Prince Harry calm the "wild lad" within him.

“The younger prince was a dashing figure, flying an Apache helicopter, and was heavily committed in the area of children’s health, with charities like Well Child. But he also used to be quite a wild lad,” Low said.

“When Harry was young, it was easy to forgive him, his transgressions. But at what point does a wild lad become a seedy old roué? At the time, it was nothing to worry about: just something to keep an eye on,” he wrote.

Elsewhere in the book, Low described how Harry was sometimes distrustful of his staff.

The former army man would carry out “loyalty tests” on his employees and was “obsessed” with the press.

Low appeared on “Good Morning Britain” recently and noted how Harry’s feelings were “brewing for a long time — before Meghan.”

“Harry had this obsession with the media. He was so very unhappy,” Low said on the chat show.

He elaborated in the book, saying: “It was a constant test of loyalty: ‘Are you going to protect me? Or have you just become one of them, who won’t fight for me?’ It was exhausting.”

“His mistrust of the courtiers in the other households; the constant loyalty tests of his own staff: All of this was there before Meghan arrived on the scene,” Low noted.
