Race Committee reviewing request from 11th Hour Racing Team to replace foils ahead of Leg 3 of The Ocean Race

The Race Committee of the Ocean Race have received a request from 11th Hour Racing Team to replace their foils ahead of Leg 3.

The request was received on February 16 at 09:00 UTC. The Race Committee are reviewing the technical reports supplied with the request, The Ocean Race said on its website.

The Rules of The Ocean Race – namely Notice of Race 6.4 – state that teams are only allowed to use one set of foils during The Ocean Race.

However, teams can apply to replace a foil if it “suffers serious damage that cannot be repaired before a leg start”.

In a statement, the 11th Hour Racing Team said it had found serious damage to both foils after the boat had undergone surface Non-Destructive Testing in Cape Town after Leg 2, concluding that the foils would require extensive repair.

Those repairs, the statement added, could not be completed before the boats depart on February 26 for Leg 3.

The statement from 11th Hour Racing Team can be read here.
