Ray Liotta movies that are still in the works after his death
Almost a year after he died, Ray Liotta is still starring in a slate of new movies.
The “Goodfellas” actor, whose cause of death at age 67 was revealed by TMZ on Monday to be “pulmonary edema and acute heart failure,” has at least three films completed or in post-production. One will be released as soon as this Friday.
And earlier in 2023, Liotta appeared posthumously as a killer drug kingpin in “Cocaine Bear.”
Here’s the status of Liotta’s forthcoming projects.
‘Fool’s Paradise’
Liotta posthumously appears in “Fool’s Paradise,” directed by Charlie Day, which hits theaters May 12. It’s a Hollywood satire with a starry ensemble cast including Jason Sudeikis, Adrien Brody, Kate Beckinsale, Common and Jason Bateman.
Liotta, known for being an on-screen firebrand, plays a movie producer.
In April, Day, of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” told Willie Geist on “Today” that his “biggest regret” is that the late actor didn’t get to see the final film.
“He delivers a performance that is, in my mind — I won’t say it’s ‘Goodfellas’ good, but it’s Ray Liotta good,” he said. “It’s up to his standards of what he can do well.”
‘April 29, 1992’
Director Ariel Vromen’s film about the 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles was shot in Bulgaria and LA and also stars Scott Eastwood, Tyrese Gibson and Michael Beasley.
It was originally scheduled to be released in April 2022 for the 30th anniversary of the riots.
But the drama ended up being filmed in early 2022 and, according to the website Movie Insider, has been completed. In August, Vromen announced on Instagram that he’d finished the movie; however, no release date has been announced for “April 29, 1992” as of yet.
At a preview screening in October, Vromen, who also directed Liotta in 2012’s “The Iceman,” echoed Day’s dismay that the actor never saw the movie.
“I’m very happy and grateful I had the chance to make his last film,” he told “ET Canada.” “But it’s a mix of happiness and sadness right now because he never saw the film.”
‘Dangerous Waters’
But is “April 29, 1992” really Liotta’s last movie? The actor’s project with the most unknown factors is “Dangerous Waters.”
The “Field of Dreams” actor’s casting in the movie was announced just 21 days before his death and he died in his sleep while in the Dominican Republic shooting the thriller directed by John Barr.
It’s unclear how far into production the film was — or if Liotta’s role would need to be recast to finish it.
The actor was said to be playing a woman’s boyfriend with a destructive secret in the movie that also stars Eric Dane and Odeya Rush.
No release date has been announced.
