Cannonier produced a devastating display in the Octagon to score the most significant strikes in the history of the UFC’s 185-pound division, and was awarded a unanimous 49-45, 49-45, and 48-46 victory over Vettori.

It could have been a very different story had Vettori been able to finish off the job early, after catching Cannonier with a huge punch in the first round.
Cannonier showed his resilience though with a hefty blow of his own in the second and put the Italian under severe pressure, ploughing 70 significant strikes in the process.
Momentum was firmly with the American going into the third round, but Vettori delivered a stunning elbow strike and struck Cannonier’s back before the horn sounded.
Vettori was on the ropes going into the fourth, but a superb head kick gave Cannonier plenty to contemplate to still leave the fight in the balance.
The Italian was determined not to lie down in the fifth, but there was nothing he could do after Cannonier delivered a devastating shot before securing a takedown and continuing to land a series of strikes in the aftermath and he was soon awarded the unanimous decision.
The win for Cannonier now leaves him at 4-1 in his last five octagon appearances, while Vettori has lost three of his last five.
