Remco Evenepoel shreds Primoz Roglic and GC rivals on Stage 9 as Louis Meintjes wins from breakaway at Vuelta

Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) shredded his GC rivals to cement his status in the red jersey at La Vuelta, as Louis Meintjes (Intermarche–Wanty–Gobert Materiaux) conquered the steep climb to Les Praeres to win Stage 9.

Big names were strewn across the final climb after Evenepoel turned the screw, with Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) among them as his hopes of winning a fourth straight title faded.

Meintjes won from the breakaway ahead of Samuele Battistella (Astana Qazaqstan) and Eduardo Zambanini (Bahrain Victorious), with Evenepoel hoovering up the rest to take fourth.
