Remco Evenepoel shreds Primoz Roglic and GC rivals on Stage 9 as Louis Meintjes wins from breakaway at Vuelta
Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl) shredded his GC rivals to cement his status in the red jersey at La Vuelta, as Louis Meintjes (Intermarche–Wanty–Gobert Materiaux) conquered the steep climb to Les Praeres to win Stage 9.
Big names were strewn across the final climb after Evenepoel turned the screw, with Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) among them as his hopes of winning a fourth straight title faded.

Meintjes won from the breakaway ahead of Samuele Battistella (Astana Qazaqstan) and Eduardo Zambanini (Bahrain Victorious), with Evenepoel hoovering up the rest to take fourth.

‘Big loss’ for Roglic as Kuss abandons, Evenepoel also man down

The Belgian leads the overall race by 1’12” from Enric Mas (Movistar), who this time was unable to follow the 22-year-old, with Roglic at 1’53” heading into the second rest day.
