Ricardo the bull wakes in NJ sanctuary after train adventure

Ricardo is waking from his wild Garden State bull run.

The Texas Longhorn who escaped a slaughterhouse and ran through train tracks in Newark was filmed being gently woken from sedation Friday in his new home, Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue in Wantage, New Jersey.

“Hello, Ricardo. You’re looking better than you were a while ago, buddy,” Skylands founder Mike Stura gently tells the befuddled bovine, who’s been named after one of the cops who helped bring him to safety Thursday.

“Do you know who I am? I’m your new dad!” Stura tells him.

“You’re good, buddy. You’re safe now. Nobody is going to mess with you anymore.

“Look how handsome you are! You just worry about getting better,” he says, telling the chestnut-colored steer to “drink a lot of water” and calling him a “good boy.”

Ricardo is seen resting in a bed of hay with a yellow numbered tag dangling from his ear and a few strands of straw decorating his forehead.

He’d already been examined by the sanctuary’s veterinarian and was expected to be back on his hoofs soon, the sanctuary said alongside the video.

“He has had a long, rough day of fighting for his life, luckily it has paid off,” the sanctuary wrote. “Just look at how handsome he is.”

The rescue farm concluded by encouraging people to “do the right thing, go vegan.”

An earlier post shared on the sanctuary’s page showed Ricardo lying on its side, “safe, but heavily sedated,” according to an accompanying caption.

Ricardo caused a huge commotion when it was spotted walking up and down train tracks near Newark’s Penn Station around 10:30 am, as seen in a viral video.

The bewildering incident disrupted train service to and from New York City for about 45 minutes.

Officers with the Newark Police Emergency Services Unit and the Port Authority Police Department eventually wrangled the runaway and corralled him in a fenced lot near Newark Liberty Intentional Airport, before he was transferred to the animal sanctuary in Wantage — a 232-acre farm that houses about 450 animals.

Ricardo is a roughly 1.5-year-old Texas longhorn steer — meaning a bull who has been castrated — weighing in between 750 and 800 pounds, Stura told The Post.

Ricardo is expected to be quarantined from other animals for several days as a precaution, before Stura decides which group of bulls and cows he will join.

“Hopefully, he’ll get along well and live a long, happy life here,” he said.

The bovine’s unbullievable day quickly made him viral Thursday — with the New York Red Bulls joking that he was likely just looking for their Newark soccer stadium.

“Please come home,” the club joked of the bull. After he was captured, the club said: “What a run.”
