Robert De Niro ‘deeply distressed’ by sudden death of his ‘beloved’ grandson Leandro

Robert De Niro is “deeply distressed” by the sudden death of his “beloved” teenage grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez.

The legendary 79-year-old actor and New York City icon issued a statement to Page Six hours after his daughter Drena announced the death of her 19-year-old son in an emotional Instagram post.

“I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo,” said the eight-time Oscar winner through a spokesperson.

“We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.”

The teen was found dead in a lower Manhattan apartment by a friend who was doing a wellness check on the young actor, according to TMZ. It was unclear how he died, but sources told The Post cops were investigating his death as a possible overdose.

Drena, the eldest daughter of the “Godfather” actor, broke the news of the family’s tragedy in a gut wrenching post early Monday.

“I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly,” the actress and filmmaker wrote. “You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life.”

After writing that she does not “know how to live without” the teenager, Drena added, “I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.

“You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you,” she continued. “I’m so sorry my baby. … Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy.”

Drena, 51, was adopted by Robert after he married her mother Diahnne Abbott in 1976.

She shared Leandro with her ex-husband Carlos Rodriguez, a pioneering subway graffiti artist who was seen arriving at her West Village home Monday morning, anguished over the loss of his son.

Leandro had appeared in several movies including the 2018 “A Star is Born” remake, where he and Drena played the wife and son of Dave Chapple’s character Noodles, a friend of the protagonist played by Bradley Cooper.
